Much is happening within the civil engineering sector across Australia and opportunities are plentiful.  I therefore wanted to share with our network an update on the current civil engineering market across the country with some news, insights and roles.

This Year

The new financial year is now well and truly underway.  Companies have their budgets set, the market is booming and despite NSW and VIC being in harsh lockdowns, projects are progressing, pipelines are strong and hiring and opportunities are plentiful.

This past month has seen a roadmap out of lockdown outlined in NSW and to some extent VIC, with the rest of the country living free of the vast majority of restrictions.

Vaccination rates are increasing and we are working towards state-wide lockdowns being a thing of the past once the magic number of 80% double-dosed vaccination rate is reached.

Recent Activity

Throughout the whole of 2021, the engineering market as a whole has been extremely busy, with the move to working from home happening seamlessly as a result of past experience with this.  There has also been a lot more confidence that we, as an industry, could work through restrictions and with an end to restrictions in sight, clients, local and state governments and private industry have kept their foot on the gas.

Major transportation projects get the headlines, and the recent award of the Warringah Freeway Upgrade in NSW has got the industry talking.  However, the shortage of available housing and the migration of people from major cities to regional areas has resulted in land development continuing to boom.  In addition, urban development projects are plentiful, with major brownfield development happening across all states and major council areas.

Positions

It really is a perfect storm in the civil engineering market; with a huge volume of work, a shortage of available talent and border restrictions limiting new arrivals to the talent pool.

As a result, I have never been busier and have more live roles than ever before!  Below is a small selection of these by state; but are by no means everything that I have available.  I’d therefore love to hear from you if you are interested in hearing what’s available in the market and opportunities that could help you to achieve your career goals.
