Much Has Happened In Recent Months
The Pandemic
The World Health Organisation has recently announced that the end to the pandemic is in sight – and I think we can all agree that we can’t wait to see the back of it! It’s been a rollercoaster ride but one of the few positives to come out of this period is how it has impacted people’s ability to work from home and the added flexibility to people’s working arrangements that are now on offer (check-out our jobs board and discover what is on offer!).
Interest Rates
Interest rates are on the rise and there has been much speculation as to how this will impact the engineering design and construction sector. I am fortunate enough to speak to industry leaders on a daily basis and the general consensus is that although some projects might slow down, there is too much appetite among developers and too much already committed to have a significant impact on pipelines of work; certainly for the short and mid-term.
Unemployment Figures
Unemployment numbers are also at an all-time low and although there was a recent 0.1% increase in the most recent figures, the number of full-time roles created across the country increased by 33,500.
We are fortunate that our industry reflects this demand for skilled workers. Our clients across the industry are still recruiting heavily, opportunities are abundant and companies are now doing more than ever to attract and retain staff. There is also enough demand and long-term pipelines of work that job security should not be a factor to make you hesitant to find a new role.
